Kitzbuhel

Kitzbuhel is one of the best-known ski resorts in Europe. Located deep in the Austrian Tyrol about 75 minutes from Salzburg, it is the home of the world-famous Hahnenkamm downhill ski race, held each January. The resort also has a reputation for being cosmopolitan and chic, and certainly the “beautiful people” do seem to gather here to see and be seen. Kitzbuhel has a beautiful medieval centre with picturesque, brightly-painted buildings everywhere you look. It has a range of hotels from budget to luxury, a variety of cafes and restaurants to suit all pockets, a vibrant nightlife scene and is a shopper’s paradise.

Hotel Edelweiss  Website Trip Advisor Page My hotel of choice in Kitzbuhel. The Edelweiss is a small hotel run by a wonderful couple, Klaus and Veronika, who will stop at nothing to make your holiday perfect, assisted by their helpful, good-natured staff. The hotel is appointed to an extremely high standard, the food is much better than similar hotels, the bar is reasonably priced and has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Try it. Centro  Website Trip Advisor Page A bustling, trendy Italian cafe bar restaurant at the main crossroads of medieval Kitzbuhel. Centro is always busy and its staff manage to remain cheerful and attentive despite being rushed off their feet. A high standard of food and not expensive at all if you avoid the meat and fish dishes. (Vorderstadt 12, 6370 Kitzbühel) Huberbrau  Trip Advisor Page Where the locals eat! Appetizing traditional Tyrolean food at prices everyone can afford. Staffed by very affable, professional waiting staff. Also good for a drink in the afternoons. Try the groestl! (Vorderstadt 12, 6370 Kitzbühel) Il Gusto  Website Trip Advisor Page Italian restaurants are in plentiful supply in Austria and this is one of my favourites. Il Gusto is not expensive for what you get and in that I include not only the wonderful food but the cosy ambience in the smallish dining area where you are more likely to hear Italian spoken than German. (Obere Gansbachgasse 5, 6370 Kitzbühel) La Gondola  Trip Advisor Page A decent pizzeria in one of the two main squares (OK, elongated ones) in the centre of Kitzbuhel. More bustling than Il Gusto but the service is prompt and jovial. A good place to go for tasty, unpretentious Italian food at a more than reasonable price. (Hinterstadt 19, 6370 Kitzbuhel) Plangger Delikatessen  Website A Seefeld favourite, now opened in Kitzbuhel on the lowest floor in the Kitz Galleria shopping centre. A restaurant / delicatessen - if you like the food in the restaurant you can buy it in the deli! Specialises in cold platters - various cold meats and cheeses with spicy relishes, supported by a good wine list. Try the Alpentapas platter. (Kitz Galleria, Im Gries 20, 6370 Kitzbühel)

This is house wine served by the glass or carafe. It is the cheapest option and generally the standard is more than acceptable.
